Hockey Club Luxembourg's young stars triumphed in the season's playoffs of the "Verbandsliga" that took place just over the border in Ludwigshafen, Germany on Sunday.
Below are the reports for both matches.
Match: HC Luxembourg – Neunkirchen/Saar05
It was a tough match where the Luxembourg team scored within the very first minutes and subsequently managed to defend their lead right until the half-time break.
In the second half Neunkirchen continued to press for equalisation, and Luxembourg had to defend two short corners early on. However, a fast combination which took Neunkirchen by surprise resulted in a 2:0 lead for Luxembourg.
Now Neunkirchen really turned up the heat whilst Luxembourg continued to use their opportunities for counter-attacks.
There were good chances for both sides, and eventually Neunkirchen managed to get closer by scoring their first goal.
The match remained exciting right until the final whistle - a hard fought 2:1 win for Luxembourg.
Final Match: TFC Ludwigshafen and HC Luxembourg
This was a gripping match between two teams of equal strength and determination to win.
Each team had its chances to score in the first half, keeping the goal keepers busy, but an excellent defence on both sides stood firm.
The match got even more intense in the second half where Luxembourg had more chances to score than Ludwigshafen but missed more than once by a hair’s breadth.
Two exhausted teams finished the second half 0:0. The winning team was decided in a penalty shoot-out. The Luxembourg players and especially the goal keeper kept their nerves and won 2:0.
