Shops will be open for part of the day on Sunday, October 23, for the traditional "Mantelsonndeg" (coat Sunday), when locals go out to purchase a new coat for the upcoming All Saints' Day.

According to local lore, this tradition was a time for the rural population to buy a coat before visiting the graves of their ancestors on November 1.

Shops not just in Luxembourg City, but also in Grevenmacher, Esch-sur-Alzette, Foetz-Mondercange, Ettelbrück and possibly others are generally open from 2pm to 6pm on "Mantelsonndeg" to honour the tradition.

Major shopping centres, including Auchan, Belval Plaza, City Concorde, Belle Etoile and others, are expected to be open as well.

Public transport is also free in Luxembourg City on "Mantelsonndeg".
