Grand Duke and Duchess leave for 5-day Turkey trip

(ADW) Grand Duke Henri and his wife Maria Teresa flew to Turkey on Monday for a five-day state visit.They aren't alone though, as the couple are accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean Asselborn, Minister of Finance Luc Frieden and Economy Minister Etienne Schneider .

The programme that begins in Ankara includes political and economic meetings in which research and innovation will be the highlights. Also included are visits to Istanbul and Gaziantep.

Besides the "Turkey- Luxembourg Business Forum" in Istanbul, organised jointly with the Turkish Chamber of Commerce, the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess will attend the opening of the fifth Atlantic Council Energy & Economic Summit ceremony in the presence of the President of the Republic of Turkey, Abdullah Gül.

A visit to the refugee camp Nizip 2, located in the region of Gaziantep (south eastern Anatolia) that can house nearly 5,448 Syrian refugees, will take place on Wednesday.

The Grand-Ducal couple will also visit Sabanci University 's “Sakip Sabanci Museum" on Thursday, as wella s the Topkapi Palace and the Grand Bazaar.

The trip will end with a visit to the Basilica of St Sophia and the Blue Mosque, on Friday.
