(ADW) British airline Flybe touched down for the very first time in Luxembourg on Thursday as the route to and from Manchester was launched.

Flying the route once a day from September 1, the airline's plan is to increase the flights to twice a day during the week in October.

“We are delighted to be launching our first flights between Manchester and Luxembourg today. Not only is this a first for Flybe, it is also now the only direct route offered to Luxembourg City outside of London. We have scheduled flight times to make day trips a real possibility as well as helping business travellers save on expensive hotel costs,” stated Vincent Hodder Flybe Chief Revenue Officer.

For those that know their planes, Flybe states it is using two types of aircraft on the MAN-LUX route; the Q400 and the ERJ175. The route currently has no other competition.

“We’re delighted to see the launch of Flybe’s new service to Luxembourg, which is a new route for Manchester. We’re confident the route will prove hugely popular with the 22 million people in our catchment area,” stated Manchester Airport’s Commercial Director, Stephen Turner.

From Luxembourg, Manchester is the first destination for Flybe, but come October, Birmingham will be added.
