After two years of planning a zero-waste and organic shopping concept, OUNI opened its doors in Luxembourg for the very first time on Monday.

As we reported a few weeks ago, the first organic store without packaging was due to open its doors at the beginning of December and so the first clients entered the shop on Monday.

"My daughter told me 'mum, you have to go, it's great, it opens Monday!' and honestly, I am not disappointed, but when we are already convinced by this basic project, we remain convinced. Congratulations!" Said one of the first clients to Caroline, one of the seven founding members of the OUNI community.

"There's a lot of emotion this morning, because it's been a lot of work over two years. We are very happy to see the project finally come to fruition. There was a lot of stress in the last few days but we are ready, everything is good,” explained Caroline, with a smile.

"We want to show people that it's easy"

Just before the doors opened for the first time, the shelves were all stocked, the jars were all filled ready for the public, while some of the staff were still busy fussing over final details so that everything would be perfect.

“We are very surprised to see that there is a lot of expectation from people: for example, nearly 64,000 people saw our Facebook post regarding the opening date of the store ... it's huge!” said one of the team.

The shop wasn't short of visitors on Monday, ready to test the concept. "I love it, I'll be back! I came here by chance. I saw OUNI written on the door and it surprised me, I wanted to understand why. And I like it very much,” said one happy customer.

However there is one criteria for visiting the OUNI shop – don't forget your own bags or jars. "We want to show people that it's easy. Just come with a bag and you can eat organic and local. We taste all our products together with local producers, it's all this work that comes to life today," explained Caroline.

A movement launched?

For Caroline and the other six members of OUNI, "the most important thing is we should open people's eyes and make them understand that it is possible to consume without wasting."

"We are delighted to have initiated a movement. We see some supermarkets starting to offer products without packaging, it is done more and more, and it is very good, we must continue like that."

OUNI, located at 55 Rue Glesener near the Gare district in Luxembourg City, is open from 10am to 8pm from Monday to Friday and from 10am to 5pm on Saturdays.
