(ADW) It's official! As of October 1 winter tyres are obligatory in the Grand Duchy when there is snow and ice. On Friday morning the new law was published.
The law is in fact the Grand-Ducal Regulation of September 10, 2012, amending traffic circulation laws dating back to November 23, 1955.
A new paragraph has now been added stating that winter tyres are obligatory in the presence of “ice, packed snow, slush, black ice, or frost."
However, all-weather tyres marked "MS", "M+S" or "M&S" are also permitted.
The text also states that tractors, military vehicles, police vehicles, customs and excise, and emergency service vehicles are all exempt from the new law.
Those caught without winter tyres in snow and ice weather conditions, will face a fine of 74 euros.
Note that if you are using summer tyres after October 1 and the road conditions are not snowy or icy, you are not breaking the law.
