(CS) Join wort.lu/en on a Christmas market adventure to find out more about Gromperekichelcher, Luxembourg's famous potato cakes.
Jos Pierucci from the Grill Bar Rond let the camera behind the scenes and explained everything about the traditional snack. One thing he didn't share – the family's secret ingredient.
While the specialty is also known across the border, for example as Reibekuchen in Germany, Luxembourgers love their Gromperekichelcher. So much so that local artist Marie Petersen has created a lovely vintage-style tea towel dedicated to the savoury treat for her label Silk&Burg.
If you prefer wearing your heart on your sleeve, online shop Äddi a Merci also offers t-shirts with a Gromperekichelcher print.
If you've worked up an appetite to make your own Gromperekichelcher, the internet will yield many recipes, including this one:
1 kg potatoes
a bunch of parsley
1 tbsp flour
salt and pepper
1. Wash, peel and grate the raw potatoes. Squeeze out the excess fluid.
2. Chop the onions and parsley and add to the potatoes.
3. Lightly beat the eggs and add to the mix.
4. Add flour and season.
5. Make patties and cook using a deep fryer or a pan with enough oil/fat to cover the mixture.
Alternatively, the Christmas market will be open until January 1 for you to enjoy the local delicatessen.
