No smoke without whisky

A gastronomical event pairing whisky with Cuban cigars proved a big hit with cigar-lovers.

Scores of people, including some big names in the whisky industry, turned up for the event organised by The Whisky Club Luxembourg at the Opera House restaurant.

The soirée was a chance to break down clichés about cigars while allowing guests to try from a range of cigars and whiskies.

A glass of Glenrothes Sherry cask was selected to accompany the trio tartare starter, followed by Olorosso from Jura with the shellfish bisque. A poultry main was paired with a 20 year-old Linwood, and the crème brûlée by a 12-year-old Ardmore run.

Following the coffees, cigar-smokers retired to another floor to choose from Cohiba, Partagas, Romeo y Julieta and Montecristo cigars, which were paired with whiskies.

Don't miss the next The Whisky Club Luxembourg event in October, dubbed Luxembourg Meets Scotland, hosted at the Big Beer Company on the Rives de Clausen.
