Luxembourg is to host its second ever European hockey tournament, kicking off in slightly unconventional style with a solo bagpiper on a red carpet.

The tournament 'piping in' symbolises the start of the one-day tournament at Boy Konen stadium on June 30 where 13 teams from six different countries will do battle.

“Following the success of our inaugural Luxury Tournament in 2011, the 2012 event will include more teams and support two worthwhile charities,” explained tournament organiser Lee Godfrey, adding: “We hope to attract more players of all ages to the friendly sport of Hockey in Luxembourg. We hope to attract plenty of support on the day, where anyone can enjoy music, entertainment and a cool beer.”

Thanks to generous sponsorship, all proceeds raised on the day will go directly to children's cancer charities Fondatioun Kriibskrank Kanner and Een Häertz fir kriibskrank Kanner.

The tournament begins at 9am and the final match starts at 5pm. For those who miss the games or wish to continue the festive atmosphere, a prize giving ceremony and fancy dress party will be held at the Black Stuff bar in the evening.

As well as two teams from Luxembourg, participating teams are expected from Kortrijk and Arlon in Belgium, Nancy in France, Arnhem and Leerdam in the Netherlands, Madrid in Spain and Geneva in Switzerland.
