(ADW) As of Tuesday, the Grand Duchy and Myanmar established diplomatic relations agreed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Luxembourg.

The agreement must be signed by the Ambassador of Myanmar, Kyaw Thant, based in Brussels, and by Luxembourg's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Jean Asselborn.

The start of diplomatic relations follows on from the first ever official visit by a member of the Luxembourg government to Myanmar on February 14 and 15, 2012.

Luxembourg wishes to work closer with the country that is "in the process of opening up after many years of military dictatorship," declared a ministry statement.
