(CS) Luxembourg chef Jan Schneidewind was not among the twelve teams selected to move on to the Lyon finals of the prestigious Bocuse d'Or distinction at the European preliminaries in Brussels.
After winning the Luxembourg qualification some five and a half months ago, Schneidewind represented Luxembourg at the Brussels round of the cooking competition.
Together with his team the chef prepared a fish and a meat course with 14 portions each in just over five and a half hours.
But despite a loyal group of fans travelling to Brussels for the event Schneidewind's “Sole Henri” and the chicken dish “Pattes bleues très bien chaussées” were not good enough to win the ten-strong jury over. The Bocuse d'Or Europe as selected by the jury in Brussels went to the Norwegian Ørjan Johannessen, with chefs from Sweden and Denmark placing second and third.
Some 20 teams took part in the competition with 12 moving on to the finals in Lyon, also including Iceland, France, the UK, Switzerland, Belgium, Hungary, Finland, Estonia and the Netherlands.
The cooking challenge, named after famous French chef Paul Bocuse, has been dubbed as the culinary equivalent of the Olympic Games. It first took place in 1987 and is held every two years. Léa Linster is the only Luxembourg chef to have been given the distinction, as well as the only woman holding the title, which she won in 1989.
The finalists of the regional rounds in Europe, the US and Asia will go head to head in the Lyon finals in January 2013.
