(CS) Between June 27 and July 7, Luxembourg will he hosting the 3rd Fundamental Monodrama Festival, with several English-language productions on the play bill.
Some 18 international productions are headed for the capital, with performers from as far afield as Burkina Faso and the Lebanon flocking to venues around Luxembourg.
On the English-language menu are three international shows:
- The Raven is a new production by Japanese composer Toshio Hosokawa. Based on Edgar Allen Poe's poem of the same name the show is a solo play, with mezzo soprano Charlotte Hellekant accompanied by the Lucilin ensemble. Following his contemporary opera Matsukaze, an homage to Japanese Noh theatre, Hosokawa is tackling one of Poe's most iconic works in this world premiere at the Grand Théâtre on June 27 at 8pm.
- My Dolls by New York writer and scholar Allen S Weiss is a performance lecture exploring one of the most uncanny playthings of the lot – dolls. The object-theatre piece takes a deeper look at what a doll is, why it can evoke spooky visions of doppelgangers and voodoo demons, making audiences think twice about their childhood pals. The show is performed at the Grand Théâtre on June 26 at 7pm.
- It's all in the title for “When the red Toyota went off the road and sank into black water”. Greek theatre troupe Noiti Grammi will be performing this English-language show about a politician left in a crisis of conscience, as he runs his car off the road. While he is able to escape his co-driver is left to drown, leaving the politician to ponder on power, atonement and death. See the show at the Banannefabrik on July 2 at 8pm.
