The Walferdange Optimists Cricket Club flies the flag for Luxembourg this Saturday at the annual BCF (Belgian Cricket Federation) Twenty20 Finals Day.

Luxembourg’s only representative in BCF competitions qualified in style, beating Ostend 2nds, Ostend Exiles and Antwerp as well as win by forfeit against the MCCB.

The Finals Day is to be held at the Royal Brussels cricket club in Ohain with both semi-finals and the final played in one day.

The Optimists’ team will be largely made up of the Luxembourg national squad, who are themselves preparing for their ICC (International Cricket Council) European Division Two tournament in Corfu starting on September 3.

Luxembourg has been drawn in Group A alongside Spain, Portugal, Estonia, Israel and Malta.

The fixtures for Saturday’s Finals Day are also set, with PCCB taking on Crescent CC in the first game, followed by the Walferdange Optimists’ semi-final against the Gent Arcadians. The final will then take place straight after the second semi-final.

The Optimists, who play their home games at the Pierre Werner Cricket Ground on Rue de l’Alzette in Walferdange, qualified for last year’s Finals Day but lost the first semi-final to a strong Ostend team. The Luxembourgers will be hoping for a stronger showing this time around.
