A charity for people with disabilities is urging the public not to donate money to people claiming to collect on their behalf.

According to police, there have been a number of reports of scammers posing as tin rattlers for Handicap International Luxembourg. The fake collectors either collect in the street or by going from door-to-door.

Handicap International Luxembourg urges people in Luxembourg not to give money and to report any such collections to the police.

In a press statement, the charity condemned the fake collectors, saying they "threaten public confidence" in Handicap International.

The charity says that it does not conduct public cash collections. The only time it would directly address members of the public is when gathering signatures for petitions against landmines or weapons.
