101 cannon volleys fired in celebration of marriage

(CS/cbu) Shortly after 1pm on Saturday, the Luxembourg army fired 101 cannon volleys in celebration of the marriage of Crown Prince Guillaume and Princess Stéphanie.

Preparations began around 10.30am under the supervision of Lieutenant Colonel Paul Reding. Some 20 troops were involved in getting everything ready for the occasion.

The 105mm howitzers of the "25 pounder" type are only launched for special events from the Fetschenhaff in Cents.

At 12pm the cannons were checked one last time and the company went through the motions, ready to start firing 101 volleys, starting 1.05pm in an interval of 10 seconds.
