Sports fans hoping to see a touch of glamour at Luxembourg's Games of the Small States may be disappointed to hear that Monaco's Princess Charlene will not be attending.

The wife of Prince Albert II of Monaco will not attend the week-long sporting activities hosted in Luxembourg at the end of May.

Going it solo, Prince Albert will spend a few hours in Luxembourg at the start of the event to watch the opening ceremony before returning to Monaco.

A keen sportsman himself, the Prince plays football, swims and has participated in competitive bobsleigh in the past.

He has been a member of the International Olympic Committee since 1985 and President of the Monegasque Swimming Federation since 1983. Princess Charlene of Monaco is a former swimming champion who competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympics for the backstroke discipline.
