(CS/ml) Same-sex couples will be able to say “I do” in Luxembourg from January 1, 2015, following a positive vote in parliament on a reform of marriage laws in June.
The law was officially published on Thursday and will come into force on the first day of the sixth month following publication, coinciding with the start of the new year.
The June vote at the Chamber of Deputies was a landslide victory for supporters of same-sex marriage and adoption, with 56 our of 60 MPs voting in favour. Three ADR MPs and one member of the CSV voted against the marriage reform.
The law also raised the minimum age for both partners to 18, as well as abolishing an obligatory medical exam and introducing new measures to help fight forced and sham marriages.
