(JB) Luxembourg Crown Prince Guillaume and Princess Stéphanie took a trip back in time when they visited the national military museum in Diekirch on Wednesday.

The royal couple toured the exhibits which describe in incredible detail the Battle of the Bulge, which ended 71 years ago to the day.

The bloody battle between Allied Forces and the German army through the rugged Ardennes region ran from December 16, 1944 to January 21, 1945, during which time nearly 200,000 people on both sides were killed.

Some of the bloodiest scenes were played out on Luxembourg soil, where a number of US soldiers died, prompting the creation of the American Military Cemetery in Hamm.
