Luxembourg's Grand Duchess Maria Teresa was guest of honour at a gala celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Luxembourg Red Cross Bazaar on Saturday.

The celebration was hosted at Center culturel Tramsschapp in Limpertsberg, and was followed the next day by the popular fundraising event at Hall Victor Hugo.

Maria Teresa serves as President to the Luxembourg Red Cross. Other guests included Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and author Stéphane Bern.

All proceeds from the bazaar are invested in aid projects abroad, including for building measures after natural catastrophes and humanitarian conflicts.

The Luxembourg Red Cross was founded on August 8, 1914, when Emile and Aline Mayrisch convinced a group of 12 people, including the mayor of the city of Luxembourg, the commander-in-chief of the army and representatives of the three churches, to sign the founding certificate.

The charity bazaar has been held by the charity's local section to support the its projects since 1996.
