(MSS) After landing in Ankara on Monday night, the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess visited the Presidential Palace on Tuesday, where they were welcomed by President Abdullah Gül and his wife.
Before the meeting, the Grand Ducal couple attended a wreath-laying ceremony at the Anıtkabir mausoleum in honour of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the first President of the Republic of Turkey.
The pair then met with Gül and his wife, Hayrünnisa Gül, before the Grand Duke and Gül met for further talks with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Luxembourg's Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn, Finance Minister Luc Frieden, and Economy and Foreign Trade Minister Etienne Schneider.
At the same time, the Grand Duchess attended a lunch in her honour with the President's wife and Minister of Family and Social Policies Fatma Şahin.
In the afternoon, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa visited the Museum of Research and Mining where they attended a presentation about Luxembourgish researcher Michel Lucius, who lived and worked in Turkey in the early 19th Century and made a geological survey about coal from the Black Sea.
Tuesday night the Grand Duke and Duchess will attend a gala dinner hosted by the presidential couple, before continuing their travels to a refugee camp near Gaziantep in south-east Turkey on Wednesday.
